Press Statement:

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond has released its 2014-15 men’s basketball schedule, head coach Chris Mooney announced Wednesday.

The schedule release comes in conjunction with the Atlantic 10 conference unveiling its conference schedule today.

This year’s schedule features 17 home games at the New Robins Center, which has undergone extensive renovations and upgrades over the last two years, including a new court this fall.

Richmond will play 11 games against teams that went to the postseason in 2013-14. The A10 is coming off one of its best years on record as six teams played in the NCAA Tournament, tied for the second-most of any conference.

The 18-game conference schedule features home-and-home games with George Mason, Davidson, George Washington, St. Bonaventure and VCU.

11 conference games have already been slated for television coverage on the NBC Sports Network, CBS Sports Network and the Atlantic 10 Network. Both of Richmond’s games against VCU will be on ESPN2, while the game at George Washington will be on ESPNU. UR’s home clash against Wake Forest will be aired on NBC Sports.

Further television dates will be announced at a later time.

“As usual, our schedule is very challenging this season,” Mooney said. “We have a strong non-conference slate and the Atlantic 10 has proven over the last 10-20 years that it is one of the best conferences in the country. Last year was no exception.”

The Spiders will play against a variety of conferences in the non-conference portion of the schedule, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Conference USA, Colonial Athletic Association, West Coast Conference, Sun Belt, Big South, Summitt League and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

As a part of the 2014 Gotham Classic, the Spiders will play Pepperdine in Madison Square Garden, marking UR’s first appearance in MSG since 2003. That game will be aired on ESPN3.

The season opens on Nov. 14 when the Radford Highlanders come to town in an intrastate clash. The Spiders travel to ODU on Nov. 18, followed by a home game against High Point on Nov. 22.

On Nov. 26, Richmond will play at N.C. State, an NCAA at-large team last season that advanced to the second round.

Games against CAA foes William & Mary (Dec. 3) and James Madison (Dec. 7) kick off December before the Spiders enter Gotham Classic play.

The Classic features three home games for Richmond, starting on Dec. 13 with Howard, followed by a clash with South Alabama on Dec. 18. The event’s premier day will be Dec. 20 when Richmond plays Pepperdine in New York City, and it concludes on Dec. 23 at home against IUPUI.

UR fans will get a midwinter treat on Dec. 28 when Wake Forest comes to the Robins Center. The game will be an emotional rematch after last year’s 76-66 overtime setback in Winston-Salem.

After a New Year’s Eve home test with Northeastern, the Spiders will open the 18-game conference slate at A-10 newcomer Davidson on Jan. 3.

January will have home games against George Mason (Jan. 8), St. Bonaventure (Jan. 11), Davidson (Jan. 17) and Duquesne (Jan. 28). Richmond travels to Dayton on Jan. 24 for a big game against the Flyers at UD Arena. UR defeated Dayton last season before the Flyers’ improbable run to the NCAA Elite 8.

On Jan. 31, the Spiders will travel downtown for the first of two games against archrival VCU at the Siegel Center. The Rams will travel out to the Robins Center on Feb. 25.

UR opens the month of February with a trip to Philadelphia to take on La Salle (Feb. 5). The Robins Center then hosts a pair of games against Rhode Island (Feb. 8) and Fordham (Feb. 11), followed by trips to George Mason (Feb. 14) and St. Bonaventure (Feb. 18).

Home games with GWU (Feb. 21), VCU (Feb. 25) and Saint Louis (March 7) alternate with trips to St. Joseph’s (Feb. 28) and Massachusetts (March 4) to end the regular season.

The 2015 A10 Tournament will be held in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 11-15. All 14 teams will advance to the tournament with two first round games kicking things off on March 11. The second round and quarterfinals will air on NBC Sports Network, the semifinals will be on the CBS Sports Network and the championship will air on CBS on Selection Sunday, March 15.
